Felipe Martinez (San Francisco) and Melanie Klaric (Chicago) will hold tango workshops here in Champaign-Urbana Friday March 5th to Sunday March 7th on the University of Illinois Campus.
There will be 6 workshops, 2 milongas and a practica. DJs: Joe Grohens Friday Pete Wilcox Saturday
Felipe has a very fluid style of dance, moving seamlessly through all ranges of the embrace; at once dynamic, smooth and extremely musical. As a teacher his dedication, enthusiasm, and sheer knowledge of the dance always come across with great clarity. He has an extensive background in other forms of movement and have been influenced by the most respected tango masters and dancers. He is a prominent tango teacher in the San Francisco/Bay Area and shares his passion for tango all over North America and Europe.
Melanie, who teaches in Chicago, began dancing Argentine Tango in 2003, but her passion for Tango began as a child, having heard the music all her life. Melanie has lived in Argentina, studying intensively with her favorite teachers. She is an enthusiastic teacher whose affection, passion, and respect for Tango are clearly illustrated in her teaching style.

Elizabeth Olivera has been dancing and teaching tango since 2000 in her hometown of Buenos Aires and around the world. She has danced in numerous shows and exhibitions in Argentina, including "Madero Tango" in Puerto Madero, "Bar Sur" in San Telmo, "Taconeando" and "La Ventana" at the famous Casa de Tango.
Elizabeth is the founding partner, artistic director and choreographer of the E.O.P. Tango Company (www.eoptango.com), based in Buenos Aires. She is also the co-director and instructor of the Argentine tango school, 2 Para el Tango, at which some of the best known dancers and teachers in tango hold classes. For four years she served as an Assistant teacher at the International Tango Congress (CITA) in Buenos Aires.
From the many great Argentinean teachers with whom she has formally studied, Elizabeth has developed a teaching style that focuses on creating an understanding of the aesthetics, body dynamics and discipline that support the dancing of tango.

The rehearsal group is for dancers who want to be in tango performances. We will develop a repertory and train with performance objectives.

WE are often asked by various groups to give tango demonstrations. And community cultural festivals also offer many opportunities to show tango.
It is desirable to have a group of dancers ready with a repertory, who can be called upon for these presentations and performances. I think we should be organized with some dance routines, or at least with some general structures for presenting tango, so that when opportunities come up the dancers are prepared.
Also, rehearsals and performance deadlines are great motivators for dancers to work hard to improve their skills. This work makes us better dancers in general.
We are looking for dancers who are willing to meet somewhat regularly for rehearsal and also for planning. For now we envision that rehearsals would typically not be more often than once a week. The schedule would be flexible, and the rehearsal planning would be open to discussion by the group.
Some choreographic ideas are already in the works: formation routines and scenarios. We also want to work with dancers on concepts and techniques that give structure to improvisations (e.g., intros and endings). The rehearsal group will be open to choreographic and performance suggestions from the dancers -- in fact, the group will need to draw on the ideas of the members.
You can be in this rehearsal group without being part of a formation team or scenario dance. For example, a couple might just want to work on routines for themselves, and not want to be part of an ensemble piece.
Part of the work of the rehearsal group will be to plan the organization of performances, given the dancers who are available and the ideas that they have.
