July Workshops & Milongas

Workshops at Channing-Murray with Colette & Richard

Friday, July 25-Sunday July 27

Colette Hebert and Richard Council, Winners of the 2003 US Championships and Finalists in the World Championships in 2005, will be joining us for a weekend immersed in Argentine Tango. They are known for their clear teaching and evaluation. They starred in the 2007 film documentary "Heart of Tango", by Johnny Robinson which was featured in the NYC Tango Film Festival and was screened last summer in Champaign. The weekend will include two milongas with performances, 7 workshops, a practica and private lessons. Also, free lessons for beginners. Housing with local dancers is available.

    Reconnect with the basics of tango: Posture, Connection and Walking (Inside/Outside, Syncopation, Transitions)
  • 1:15pm-2:30pm Musicality: Interpreting different orchestras (int/adv)
    Expand how you think about the music!


  • 2:30pm-3:45pm Overview of Molinetes/Giros (int/adv)
    Review of technique for followers and leaders: distance, tempo, axis, transitions, sacadas, stepping through the turn

  • 4:00pm-5:15pm Enrosques (int/adv)
    Learn this tricky but cool move!

  • Beginner Lesson 8pm with local teachers (free)

  • Milonga 9pm-12am with performance DJ Joe (Groove) Grohens

Sunday July 27
Workshops:

  • 12pm-1pm Boleos: Freeing the Trailing leg (int) How followers can free the leg and leaders direct it

  • 1:15pm-2:15pm Milonga (int/adv)
    Polish your technique and expand your repertoire of steps!

  • 2:30pm-3:30pm Compositions for small spaces (int/adv)
    Keep dancing during rush hour without fender benders!


  • 3:45pm-5:00pm Practica
    Try out what you learned and bring your individual questions to Colette and Richard
